Potassium, magnesium and calcium is what is needed for bone formation. Magnesium is found in all human tissues, about 1/5 of it in soft tissues. Magnesium is the predominant mineral cation in living cells and a very important member of the Krebs cycle.
Gastrointestinal and kidney disorders hamper magnesium absorption as the mineral is assimilated in the intestines. Crohn’s disease, IBS and other G.I. disorders may cause a deficiency.
Antibiotics, diuretics and anti-neoplastic medication can affect assimilation of magnesium.
Older people may follow a diet too low in magnesium and may be deficient.
Alcoholism, inadequate intake of greens, unhealthy lifestyle, stress, eating of fast food or other non-organic food, all lower magnesium levels. As the soil is deficient in magnesium these days, it is essential to either supplement this mineral or eat an organic diet to ensure sufficient intake of this vital nutrient.
